god, i forgot how many things about those movies annoyed me.

Did anyone else find Inception mediocre and predictable?

After three tries with Netflix, I finally got a copy of Fantastic Mr. Fox that played all the way through. Definitely worth it if you enjoy stop-motion animation, Roald Dahl stories, or both. The puppet detailing was extraordinary and the care taken with facial expressions was at the same high level. Really a treat to watch.

I don't know why I feel compelled to write this review, but whatever.

Good

• Some decent CGI
• 2/6 female charas
• 1 androgynous chara (I also think they managed not to use pronouns at all with zim, which was I thought was a nice touch, not giving the viewer anything concrete)

Bad

• No Bechdel test

Just finished watching UP. She liked it "a lot". I knew she would, even though she's not big into animation. "It's not really a kids' movie" she said. "I know," I said. I cried on and off the whole way through, as I have every time I've watched it. The movie is like a punch in the nose as far as tear production goes. At least for me.

Persepolis is a really, really, really, really good film. Pacing, acting, soundtrack, art style, cinematography--just really brilliantly, precisely executed. It is a beautiful movie. How freaking adorable is Rachel Maddow, sitting on a LA dock, with mussy hair and an open collar shirt, attended by a swarm of nighttime bugs? So adorable that I took the commercial break to run downstairs and post this.
